The first episode of The History of Alternative (the show that gives a semi-sequential history of alternative music) aired on September 25th, 2017 and the band The Velvet Underground was the main focus of the episode. The Velvet Underground are considered by many critics to be the first “alternative band” although they were not together during the time when the wave of alternative that occured in the 70s-90s. The magnum opus of the band’s discography is their debut album, The Velvet Underground and Nico, and it is considered by many to be the most important album in alternative music history. My show focused on the importance of this debut album and it was played at the beginning of the show. The second half of the show was dedicated to playing a couple of their other songs from their other albums: White Light/ White Heat, The Velvet Underground, and Loaded.
