Apologies for the long wait on this post. I was busy…doing nothing. And now I am busy…with finals. Yet here I am, writing the first of four posts in rapid succession. Second semester, I’ll get my stuff together. Lets hope. But that’s not what you’re here to hear about, is it? You’re here to hear all about Austin! Austin, Texas, my beloved hometown. I am entirely unabashed when I say that I come from what is truly the greatest city in the world. There is nothing you cannot find to do. Want to skydive? There’s a place for that. Want to go thrift shopping? There’s a place for that. Want the best tacos in the country? There are ENDLESS PLACES for that. I’m going to break for a second, and focus on the food. While Austin might not have any official title of gastronomical capital of the western hemisphere, it certainly deserves it. You would be hard pressed to not be able to find whatever food you are craving. Options galore, anything from the best Tex-Mex in the world, to Korean BBQ, to fancy Brazilian steakhouses. Out of all of them, Tex-Mex is most definitely the crown jewel in the Austin gastronomical crown. I am not exaggerating when I say how good the Tex-Mex is. Tacos, enchiladas, migas, anything you want. However, one of the best food items in something that could cause a little bit of controversy here in Arkansas. That’s right, I’m talking about Queso. Not whatever “cheese dip” is. I was sent an article by the Austin American Statesman (local newspaper) about how Arkansas is claiming to have invented it. You know what, maybe they did invent “cheese dip”. Because “cheese dip” is nowhere near the level that queso is. I’m sorry that in terms of food, Arkansas feels overshadowed by its neighbors, but don’t try and claim something that is already claimed. Below I’ll leave a link to the Statesman article on this. Wow, this entire post has been about food. Not really surprising though. Also, I’d like to issue one more formal apology to my guest host for this show, Hannah Henderson. I am very sorry that I had the wrong mic turned on for the first few segments, and that your great words were cut out. Please find it in your heart to forgive me one day. Thanks for reading, y’all (as we say in Austin. I don’t actually use that word).
