Welcome once again to this Funked Up! weekly podcast. This week was Pop-Funk to the Present, where we ran through some big-hit manifestations of funk in popular music from the 70s to the present day. In our journey we heard the popular funk and disco of the 70s (i.e. Jackson 5, Earth Wind and Fire), the hip and successful pop-funk of the 80s (i.e. Michael Jackson, Rick James), the funk rock and funky rap of the 90s (i.e. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Biggie Smalls), and finally the nostalgic funk-pop, nu disco, and electro-funk of the 2000s (i.e. Bruno Mars, Daft Punk). This comprised a compact rundown on the evolution of funk through the decades. This coming week is gonna feature Sly & the Family Stone’s unique and moody 1970 album There’s a Riot Going On and elaborate on its unique place the funk genre. Until then!
