This week I finished “The Murdered Cousin” by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, which you can read here. I really enjoyed it, and I hope you did too! If you want more, it was later expanded into the novel Uncle Silas, which you can read here.
I don’t have much analysis to add, but I would like to mention that lovely red herring with the horse! About three-quarters through Emily mentions that Edward has a black horse which allows them to notice that he’s home when he shouldn’t be. Then, in the climactic chase scene, Margaret, our heroine, hears a horse behind her… and then it catches up, and we discover that it’s a temperamental pony running in circles! Quite the relief.
I finished off with “Speak to Me Dead” by Pinc Louds, which was inspired by a haunted house! This radio show is a glorified funnel with me feeding Pinc Louds directly into your brain. You can watch a live performance of it here. I highly suggest you do, Claudi is an excellent performer!
This story was a blast to read. Can’t wait to see you again next Thursday!
