This week was a special treat for me: all compare and contrasts! It’s been too long since I’ve had time for my favorite segment, so this one was nothing but. Here’s all the pairs and YouTube links (for ease of access) so you can appreciate them in your own time:
- “Can’t Cool Me Down” by Car Seat Headrest & “She Ain’t Speakin’ Now” by of Montreal
-
“Возвращайся домой [Come Back Home]” by Mujuice and Zemfira & “Haruspex is All Alone” from the Pathologic OST, an unreleased track
- “Bloodhail” by Have A Nice Life & “Bloodless” by Andrew Bird
- “Too Little Too Late” by Metric & “Watching Snow” by Pinc Louds (and here’s live performances of each, because these artists are excellent live performers: “Too Little Too Late” and “Watching Snow”)
- “Iowa” by Mal Blum (and a live version, because Mal Blum is gorgeous and you deserve to look at them) & “Hurricane” by The Hush Sound
Since I talked about him for a bit, this is La Mort de Marat, painted by Jacques-Louis David in 1793. You can see Edvard Munch’s photographed self-portrait named after it here.
Similarly, here’s the album art for Amore & Morte by Mujuice. If you think this is pretty, you should definitely watch the video for “Возвращайся Домой!”
I hope you enjoyed eating with me this week, and I hope you’ll rejoin me next time!
Your DJ/Dinner Companion,
Drew
