The Engaged Citizen is Hendrix’s first year seminar course that approaches teaching about themes of engaged citizenship from two distinct disciplines. In the “Nature & Music” section this fall, 30 students considered questions such as “Do animals make music?” and “Is it possible for humans and animals to truly collaborate in making music?” In this radio special, six student groups share original music compositions that were part of their final engaged learning activity while also being interviewed about their projects by instructors Dr. Andrew Morgan (Music Department) and Dr. Maureen McClung (Biology Department). Listen to the podcast above for these original works that blend sounds from nature (biophony and geophony) and the human word (anthrophony). Below you will also find a list of the tracks that serve as musical interludes between group presentations. We hope you enjoy!
