Hello Everyone! I was supposed to air last week. But my flu had other plans. Anyways, I unfortunately could not get the audacity to work this time. Maybe next week.
For our first episode, I gave a brief overview what Indian music is like, and what all influences it has. I started with Vaathapi Ganapathim Bhaje sung by Maharajapuram Santhanam and composed by Muttuswami Dikshitar and is a classical Carnatic composition. I next played Sunta Hai sung Paandit Kumar Gandharva. This song is a Kabir, composed by Kabir Das and is in the Hindustani style of Indian music. Lastly I played Bhaja Govindam, composed by Adi Shankaracharya and sung by MS Subbulakshmi. This is song is more of hymn/prayer thats been turned into a song, again in the Carnatic style.
