Welcome to another Funked Up! Weekly podcast, bringing the funk to any time or place from your favorite funky white boy. Last week was Eclectic 80s Funk, showing off the new directions funk headed in during the 1980s. We saw Cameo, Zapp and Roger, Rick James, and George Clinton bringing their late 70s funk into the new decade with zeal, utilizing the fresh electro and synth sounds of the 80s to great effect. We saw Michael Jackson and Prince dropping mega-popular funk bombs on the public. We saw the B52s and The Talking Heads creating a commercially and critically successful fusion of alternative rock, new wave, and funk. These artists and more defined the fresh funk of the 80s. Tune in this Thursday 5-6 pm for a special I’m real excited about: Funk in Contemporary Rap & R&B, featuring the musical talents of Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, D’Angelo and more.
