Well, I teased it last week, but here we are! A whole episode dedicated entirely to one of my all time favorite bands, Cake Bake Betty. We got through almost all of their 2006 album Songs About Teeth, with just enough time to touch on their 2008 album To The Dark Tower. Seeing as I just got through as much of their discography as I could, I’m just going to link to the albums themselves rather than my playlist.

As I mentioned, I was introduced to this band through the artist Qozxe and her playlists (which are still mostly intact here) for her webcomic Something You Want. The comic’s original website is long gone, but very fortunately archived on the Wayback Machine, so you can read it here. Don’t be put off by the initial art style. It’s a dramatic story about yearning and murder and cannibalism and a lot of murder, really just so much murder, so if anything puts you off let it be that. There’s also some drugs involved, and some suggestive content. It’s quite the comic. Oh, and the animatic I mentioned is here.

My information on today’s compare and contrast was slightly incorrect, but I figured it out by the end! I compared “Be Sweet” by Japanese Breakfast and “Reason to Believe,” originally by Tim Hardin but I played the version by Vagabon and featuring Courtney Barnett.

I hope I conveyed some of my deep love onto you, and I hope you’ll join me for dinner again next week.

Your DJ/Dinner Companion,
Drew
