This week we finished up “Troubled Waters” by Bertrand W. Sinclair and listened to a few songs named after goddesses! It’s always fun to throw together a mini-playlist, and we got a little experimental too. You can read “Troubled Waters” here, and you can listen to the goddess playlist here.

One of the songs today was “Our Lady of the Largest Heart, we exalt you” by anunenthusiast. As I explained, the title comes from one of Inanna’s epithets (though I briefly forgot the word), and I read from one of Enheduanna’s hymns to her. You can read the translation I was using here! It’s, as far as I’m aware, a very accurate and lovely translation that isn’t extremely concerned with artfulness. There are other more creative translations, though that certainly comes at the price of accuracy.

The compare and contrast for the day was “Venus in Furs” by the Velvet Underground and “The Ballad of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch” by Kid Scientist, which I’ve already written an extensive comparison of here.

I hope to see you again next week!

Your DJ/Dinner Companion,
Drew
